Overview
The Helicon 800 is the largest of the Helicon Series. Like all of the Helicon´s, the 800 features low loss paper/woodfibre drivers and the Hybrid Tweeter Module. This ensures that the listener will experience the subtlest musical details, even at low listening levels. If you think about it, most the time you listen to music at levels that allow you to have a conversation with someone without shouting. With DALI, you are always sure that even at low listening levels details will not disappear.
The curved sides and real wood front baffle eliminate resonances and vibrations for the highest possible sound quality with minimal noise from the speaker cabinet. Essentially, the 800 is a three-way bass reflex speaker with 2 x 8" bass woofers, 1x 6.5” midrange driver and DALI´s proprietary ribbon/soft dome hybrid tweeter module. In fact it is more a three-and-a half-way design, as the dome and the ribbon do not cover the same frequency range.
Helicon uses the Hybrid Tweeter Module principle made legendary by the Euphonia series as well as the wood/paper cone driver principles also developed for and tested in the Euphonia Series. The special patented resonance dissipation cabinet used in the Euphonia was not available at this price point. Instead, the Helicon has a massive wood front baffle mounted on 3 layers of MDF for resonance elimination. The curved sides alone make a very efficient barrier against the build-up of internal resonances to build up. To achieve the curved sides, 4 layers of MDF are bonded together then bent into the curved shape - this also is a very efficient way of eliminating vibrations in the cabinet.
