Overview
A constant frustration of any electronics manufacturer is the obvious fact that electronics cannot reproduce music without being connected to a loudspeaker. High-performance loudspeakers are very expensive to build and yet many still do not match the performance of the connected electronics, whose full potential may never be realised. Acknowledging this shortfall TAG McLaren Audio declared from the outset that it would design and manufacture its own loudspeakers to complement the company's electronic designs.
"The sound from small speakers is good and realistic enough to me". This observation more likely reflects the wishes of the interior designer than the engineer aiming to satisfy the laws of physics and acoustics. There is also frequent conflict between the optimum placement of a loudspeaker and the desire for the focal point of a living room, to ‘look attractive'. Only a small minority of audiophiles are prepared to convert their living space into a listening room, particularly one complying with all acoustical requirements. In addition, matters are getting worse: until recently the hi-fi enthusiast had to convince their partner to find a suitable location for two loudspeakers (left and right for two channel stereo), but now he may well have the task of integrating five (or more) loudspeakers with an additional subwoofer to create a multi-channel surround sound or Home Theatre system. TAG McLaren Audio has acknowledged this conflict by designing a loudspeaker for those who wish to combine fine aesthetics with their listening pleasure.
